A great design start to Spring
A very creative April after 4 weeks of bed rest, recovery and boredom!
I hope everyone has been having a lovely start to spring. I am finally feeling a bit better and doing more since my surgery. Thank goodness! That means I am now catching up for 4 weeks of doing nothing but mindless binge watching everything on AcornTV. SO BORING!
I am super excited to share that I am one of the 100 surface pattern design artists that were selected to be in the Uppercase magazine 6th surface pattern design guide. 790 designers applied. I almost didn’t apply as my design style is so niche, but I am so thankful I did.
The designs below are the ones chosen to be in the issue. They represent my original work (far right) and then one of my latest shibori designs (center) and then the start of my releasing new colors of all of my dyed designs (far left).
April is for designing
Erin Kendal is hosting a super fun month long blender bonanza on instagram. The point is to help build up our design portfolios with blenders and get out of our design comfort zones. As most of you know abstract dyed designs are my main thing, but this has opened my eyes and helped me really hone in my skills in other areas.
Below are mockups of the design prompts so far! I have actually been designing a lot more than what is below, but I have to save some for later. You’ll notice the design names are gibberish- but there is a reason. It is all about metadata. So, I try and think of what you may search for to find a design- I am not perfect at this part. I miss the days of calling something some weird abstract nonsense like Wycamp one, but those days are long gone.
The design prompts are from most recent to the beginning- we are about halfway through. If you want to join, check out the tag #psablenderbonanza on Instagram. You don’t have to do it on the exact days and you don’t need to have a Spoonflower shop to join in.
In other news
I am hoping in June of July to be recording some shibori design techniques for my paid subscribers (and offer them for sale for anyone at very low prices). I want to share my love of shibori with the world. I am under weight restrictions right now but hopefully by then I will be clear for a few more pounds. Wet fabric is heavy!
If you live in the Indianapolis area and want to do some in person dye classes with me later this summer I would love to. So get in touch via email!
I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your April. Chag Pesach Sameach, Happy Easter!

Congrats on being in the top 100 design choices. Also that you'll be starting up your classes for fabric dying. Concerning your classes that you'll want to be holding sometime in the near future, I would like to offer a documentary photography day where I will photograph still photos of one of your class days that you can use if you would like for any future advertising or promotional purposes.
