Here we are. It's time to introduce my lovely subscribers, customers, and friends to my new brand colors, one at a time. Pistachio mint is versatile and calming in whatever way you bring it into your home.
Although pistachio mint may not be the most unique name, it is one of my favorites. So I am introducing it to you first. Well, first in my new Dyes Happy brand colors.
The above design, shibori mirror, is one of my oldest and most loved designs. The twist? This is the pistachio mint version. The original is indigo with a darker background; see it here. To make this design, I used itajime resist dye techniques to hand-dye the fabric. I then photographed the dyed fabric and created a digital repeat from it. As much as I adore the original, this new color is beautiful. It makes some of my classic shibori designs more approachable to more people. I got some sage advice from Mindy of Indy Bloom Design. She suggested adding new colors to my brand to attract a broader audience. I know she was spot on.

After weeks of researching colors, I created tons of new ones. I tested them in my staple shibori designs and found many were too bright for my liking. So, I kept adjusting and testing. I finally decided I needed 8 colors, not 6. Why not make my workload bigger? But in all seriousness, I had to add my staple indigo. And the colors I approved were screaming for some softer hues.
I found a fabric sample from my collab line in Charleston, 3LCollective. We had gorgeous designs. But it didn't work out in the long run. We printed our own fabrics in-house. Oof, that cost is enormous. But I digress. I found a design sample I almost forgot about. It was an acrylic abstract I painted while living in Charleston. The colors were not me and completely screamed Charleston. I realize now those colors may not appeal to me, but damn, they appeal to a huge mass of people. I pulled up my big girl panties. I stopped using only colors I like (dark blues, greens, and other earth tones). I started thinking about my customers and what they want.
I hope you enjoy this new color. I'd truly love your thoughts on it. And if you love one of my designs in my Spoonflower shop and want to see it in this color, please just leave me a comment, email or message.
